10 US Universities with 100% Scholarships for Transfer Students

If you're an international transfer student looking for full funding in America, I've got exactly what you need. Here are 10 universities that give 100% scholarships to international transfer students — and their applications are still open with a March 1st deadline.

What Makes These Schools Special#

All 10 of these universities offer full need-based financial aid to international transfer students. This means if you get accepted and demonstrate financial need, they can cover 100% of your costs — tuition, room, board, and sometimes even personal expenses.

But here's the reality: acceptance rates vary dramatically, from ultra-competitive Ivy League schools to more accessible liberal arts colleges.

The Complete List: 10 Universities with Full Funding#

Here are the 10 schools with their acceptance rates:

Ultra-Competitive (Under 5%)#

Harvard University0.8%Cambridge, MA
Princeton University1.9%Princeton, NJ
Bates College4%Lewiston, ME
Brown University4.1%Providence, RI
Pro Tip

One thing to know about Harvard: like Columbia, its transfer admission is need-aware for international students. Harvard is need-blind for freshmen but not for transfers, so requesting full aid as an international transfer makes admission more competitive — your application needs to be strong.

Moderately Competitive (5-25%)#

  • Columbia University — 10.1% acceptance rate (New York City). One thing to know about Columbia: they formally meet 100% of need for admitted international transfers, but aid for international transfers is awarded on an extremely limited basis, and transfer admission is need-aware — asking for a full scholarship makes admission more competitive, so your application needs to be strong.
  • Grinnell College — 18.9% acceptance rate (Grinnell, IA). Important caveat: that's Grinnell's overall transfer rate. Grinnell's international aid budget is sequestered for freshmen, and it explicitly says need-based aid for international transfers is extremely rare — so if you need a full ride, treat Grinnell as effectively freshman-only.
  • Reed College — 20% acceptance rate (Portland, OR)

More Accessible Options (25%+)#

  • Whitman College — 39% acceptance rate (Walla Walla, WA)
  • Yale University — 1.5% acceptance rate (New Haven, CT)

A Note on the University of Richmond#

  • University of Richmond — ~15–16% transfer acceptance rate (Richmond, VA). Richmond is often listed as a transfer "safety" near 45.6%, but that's wrong: it takes roughly 50 transfers from about 300 fall applications, so the real rate is closer to ~15–16%. On top of that, its international transfer funding is extremely limited, and transfers aren't eligible for the Richmond Scholars merit award. Treat it as a reach for funded international transfers, not an easy option.

Who Qualifies as an International Transfer Student?#

Let me be clear about this definition: An international transfer student is anyone who has attended any college or university after high school, hasn't completed a bachelor's degree, and now wants to transfer to a US school to complete their degree.

This includes:

  • Students who started university in their home country
  • Students who attended community college in the US
  • Students who completed some coursework at a 4-year institution
  • Students who took a gap year but have some college credits

Strategic Application Approach#

With acceptance rates ranging from 0.8% to 39%, you need a smart strategy. Don't just apply to Harvard and Princeton — include schools across the acceptance rate spectrum.

High-Reach Schools (Under 5%)#

  • Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Brown, Bates
  • Apply if you have exceptional academics and unique experiences

Target Schools (5-25%)#

  • Columbia, Grinnell, Reed
  • Good fit for strong students with solid profiles

Safety Schools (25%+)#

  • Whitman College
  • Higher acceptance rates but still excellent education. Note: University of Richmond is often mislabeled a transfer safety — its real transfer rate is ~15–16% and its international transfer funding is extremely limited, so treat it as a reach for funded transfers.

Important Deadline Information#

All 10 schools have a March 1st deadline. This is non-negotiable — missing this deadline means waiting another full year.

Beyond These 10 Schools#

These aren't the only options for international transfer students. I've identified many more schools offering full funding:
