Should International Students Still Come to America in 2026?

I know many of you have been worried about recent immigration policies in America. Over the last couple of days, I've received hundreds of messages asking: "Why should I come study in America? It seems like America is very anti-immigrant right now."

Let me address these concerns directly and honestly, because the truth is more nuanced than what you're seeing in the headlines.

The Reality of Current Immigration Policies#

Yes, immigration policies in America have changed, and it is more challenging to come and study in America as an immigrant. There's also more negative rhetoric directed toward immigrants. That's totally true.

However, it's not to the extent that news organizations make it seem.

I've been in communication with thousands of international students currently studying in America, and many of them have not even seen an ICE agent. Of course, there are some that do, but the majority of people I've spoken to have not.

Here's the key difference: If you're coming to America illegally, that's a different story. But if you're legally coming to America, studying here, and following all the rules and regulations, then you will not have as many issues with immigration.

Why America Is Still the Land of Opportunity#

Despite policy changes, America remains the land of opportunity for immigrants. Here's why:

Full Scholarship Opportunities#

Over 60 schools give full scholarships to international students who want to come and study in America. These aren't just small colleges—many are top-tier institutions.

For comprehensive lists of these opportunities, check out:

Holistic Admission Process#

These schools have a holistic admission process, meaning they look far beyond your grades and test scores to decide whether they should accept you or not.

This is super important because not many other places around the world have this type of admission policy. Even if you have low grades in your home country or very low test scores, you can still study at the best universities in America.

This is exactly what happened to me. I didn't have perfect grades in South Africa and was unable to go to any school there. However, I was able to come and study in America on a full scholarship and even attend an Ivy League school.

High-Paying Career Opportunities#

If you study in America and get a degree, you can also work in America. Many students I know who have studied Computer Science or nursing are making over $100,000 per year.

And no, this isn't after five, six, or seven years of experience. Their first job after graduation is in the six-figure range.

FieldStarting SalaryCareer Growth
Computer Science$100,000+Excellent
Nursing$100,000+High demand
Engineering$90,000+Strong growth
Business$80,000+Varied by specialty

Making Your Decision#

If you've heard all of this and you're still uncertain about coming to America, that's fine. You don't have to come study here. You can always go somewhere else.

But understand this: America is truly only for those people who see the opportunities it offers.

If you're someone who:

  • Wants access to world-class education with potential full funding
  • Values merit-based admissions that look beyond test scores
  • Seeks high-paying career opportunities after graduation
  • Is willing to follow legal immigration processes

Then America might still be the right choice for you.

To help you make an informed decision, explore these guides:

Remember, the key is coming legally and following all rules and regulations. If you do that, America can still be the launching pad for an incredible future.
